A Day Trader has taken on a pessimistic implication. A lot of public think of the unpaid individual investors who started investing their own money through online trading sites such as eTrade at some stage in the Internet tech boom. Some of them made lots of money at first. And most of them lost a lot in the collapse.

More technically, on Wall Street, Day Trader can refer to any very energetic trader who makes quick, violent trades.
