The format can be as detailed as required. While a simplified example is given above the actual budget will be more elaborate and will differ with every family.

Using the Budget

The budget is made in the last week of the month for use in the next month. It can be made on a sheet of paper using a calculator or in a computer worksheet. The first step is writing down all the expenses required. The second step is to classify the expenses as basic needs, spare cash, savings, consumer durables and comforts.

Filling in the numbers

The income is calculated and placed in the top section. The expenses are entered below that. The expenses are adjusted till a match is made with total income. The money we put aside by our own estimate falls into the budgeted column. At the end of the month the actual amounts required are placed into the actual columns. The difference helps us make a better estimate for the next month.

This simple tool lets us control our financial life and use our money wisely.
